Our own home. A simple two-story structure with most of the emphasis on the inside. The exterior is a rough-sawn plywood (T-11 no grove) with battens. Nothing fancy. The interior makes use of simple intersecting forms to make a statement. Small changes in direction of elements to describe areas. Long sight lines both vertically and horizontally make 1350 square feet fell line 2000.
A 5,000 square foot custom build in 2019 on Bainbridge Island, Washington. A steep slope on the property required a coordinated effort with the City of Bainbridge Island to preserve the sensitive area and still provide a building pad for the residence. The super insulated house also included photo voltaic panels and heat recovery from the HVAC system.
Take a very large bedroom space, shared by sisters and turn it into two separate rooms with a shared bath. That was the challenge. A sloping room left little room at one end of the space so, raise the roof. All three spaces were accessed by a small vestibule, sliding doors were used to save space (no door swing) finished out by some fantastic hardware and colors the owners picked out.
